Learn About the Impact on International and Grassroots Organisations and Those They Serve.

“Since taking office less than a month ago, President Donald Trump’s executive orders have put numerous rights at risk in the US and around the world.

The Trump administration’s cuts to crucial funding and attacks on a variety of institutions are pausing lifesaving work and putting millions of people in harm’s way. ”

Giving Women is organizing a panel of speakers to discuss the implications of the USAID shutdown on the global public health sector. The goal is to understand the grave impact on underserved communities and the supply chains they have grown to depend on. We will also learn about the effect on community-based organisations (CBOs), and NGOs and aim to agree on some principle for rapid response and gradual system change.

We will focus on the public health, as the consequences are life threatening. With the shutdown, HIV patients are unable to access their antiretroviral medications, infants are missing vaccinations, essential food supplements for undernourished are unavailable, and clinics have been forced to close or are being sustained by volunteers unwilling to abandon those in need.

Through this panel we will understand the implications of the USAID freeze on the global public health sector. We will hear the stories of people on the front line of this crisis and we will explore what principles and approaches that could be leveraged to respond quickly and build more resilience into system.

The panel will be moderated by Elianna Sabbag Moquette, Director of if Foundation and member of the Giving Women Executive Committee. Our panelists will be:

Heba Aly: Facilitator of the dialogue series ‘Donors in a Post-Aid World’, ODI Global
Mercy Anapoorani: Founder, Blossom Trust
Nidhi Bouri: Crisis response and global health executive, previously Deputy Assistant Administrator for Global Health at USAID.
Felix Brooks-Church: Co-Founder & CEO of Sanku
Phylis Kurlander Costanza:  Former Global Head of Social Impact and CEO UBS Optimus Foundation

Mojgan Sami: Global Health Advisor for the Public Health Department at CSU Fullerton
